About this tour

Puerto Escondido is 2.5 hours from Oaxaca City by road through the Sierra Sur — and it might as well be another world. The Pacific coast. Zicatela Beach: one of the most famous surf breaks on earth, known as the Mexican Pipeline. This is a full day trip: we leave before sunrise, spend the day at the beach, eat seafood with your feet in the sand, and drive back at sunset. You don't have to surf to love this day.

What we do

Hotel pickup — 4:30 to 5:00 AM

Yes, it's early. Yes, it's worth it.

Drive through the Sierra Sur

The road down to the coast is scenic — pine forests giving way to tropical valleys. Coffee and snacks stop on the way.

Arrive at Puerto Escondido — 7:30–8:30 AM

Breakfast at La Punta or in the town center.

Zicatela Beach

The Mexican Pipeline. World-class waves. Depending on conditions and your level, you paddle out or you watch from the shore with a cold drink.

Carrizalillo or La Punta

Calmer water for swimming and beginners. Surf lesson with a local instructor available — just let us know in advance (+$35–40 USD).

Seafood lunch

Fresh ceviche, whole fish, shrimp tacos — right on the water.

Free afternoon

Snorkel, paddleboard, hammock, browse the Adoquín. Your call.

Drive back at sunset

Arrive at your hotel around 8:30–9:00 PM.
