Monte Albán Private Tour

A thousand years of Zapotec history — and a view from the top of the world.

Duration 8–9 h
Price From $95 USD / person
Departs 6:30–7:00 AM
Minimum 2 people

Monte Albán is one of the oldest cities in Mesoamerica — a UNESCO World Heritage Site perched above the Valley of Oaxaca at 1,940 meters. For over a thousand years it was the political and cultural capital of the Zapotec civilization. We take you there privately, early, before the tour buses arrive. Then, on the way back, we find a quiet spot in the Valley to open a bottle of artisanal mezcal and take in the view. No rush. Your pace. Your story.

1
Pickup at your hotel
We leave early to arrive before the crowds — the light at Monte Albán in the morning is worth the alarm clock.
2
Monte Albán — 2.5 to 3 hours
The Great Plaza, the Ball Court, the Observatory, and the royal tombs. We walk at your pace and tell the story of the people who built this city a thousand years before the Aztecs.
3
Village stop in the Valley
A brief stop at Atzompa or San Bartolo Coyotepec — two villages keeping Zapotec craft traditions alive. Green ceramic or black clay, your choice.
4
Mezcal moment
We find a quiet spot in the Valley, open a bottle of artisanal mezcal, and let the afternoon settle in. No tasting notes. Just good mezcal and a good view.
5
Return
Back at your hotel by 3:00–4:00 PM. Optional comida stop on the way.
