Hierve el Agua + Mitla + El Tule

Petrified waterfalls, Zapotec ruins, and the widest tree on earth — all in one day.

Duration 8–9 h
Price From $85 USD / person
Departs 8:00 AM
Minimum 2 people

Three of Oaxaca's greatest icons, strung together on one private day trip through the Valley of Oaxaca. El Tule is the widest tree trunk on the planet — over 2,000 years old. Mitla is a Zapotec masterpiece: geometric stone mosaics assembled without mortar, a technique found nowhere else in Mesoamerica. And Hierve el Agua is what most people come for — mineral springs that have been slowly forming a waterfall out of stone for thousands of years. You swim in the pools at the top of a cliff.

1
Pickup at your hotel
Early departure — we head east through the Valley along Highway 190.
2
El Tule — 20 minutes
The Montezuma Cypress. 2,000 years old. The widest tree trunk in the world. Quick stop, photos, context.
3
Mitla — 1.5 hours
Zapotec ruins from the Postclassic period. The geometric mosaic friezes here are unique in all of Mesoamerica — assembled without mortar, no two pieces the same. Optional: browse the textile market at the entrance.
4
Hierve el Agua — 2.5 to 3 hours
The main event. Two mineral pools perched on a cliff with views across the Valley. A short hike to the mirador of the petrified waterfalls. Bring a swimsuit — the water is worth it.

A family-run spot in the Valley — tlayuda, tasajo, fresh agua de fruta.
6
Return
Back at your hotel by 4:30–5:00 PM.
